The web player is experimental: check here to see if your browser is supported.

Caterpillar is a weird thing I made for Ludum Dare 50: why  Caterpillar exists.

Notes

  • If you would like to discuss the source code please leave a comment here.
  • The theme was: delay the inevitable.
  • Caterpillar does not support touch controls, therefore it is not playable on mobile devices.

How to play

The title screen explains the controls. Things that can be interacted with have exclamation points floating next to them, and the exclamation point next to a character disappears when you have finished their quest (though you can still talk to them).

You will know you have done everything there is to do when the end button shows.

Changelog

2022-04-06

Added

  • Experimental web build.
  • The changed source code needed to export the web build.

Changed

  • Web build: reduced download size by switching to lossy compression for the background images; this should have no discernible loss in image quality.
  • Web build: to prevent the browser from hanging the end button now takes you back to the title screen rather than shutting down. This was the original intended behavior, but it had issues which caused me to opt for shutting down instead.

2022-04-05

  • Experimental macOS build.
  • Open source license.
